Rehabilitation and Modernization Project for the Jacinto Correia Basic School, Lagoa

Municipality of Lagoa

Introduction

This article presents the project plan for the improvement and renovation works of the Jacinto Correia State School, in the Municipality of Lagoa. The intervention arises within the scope of the School Recovery/Rehabilitation Program (Investment RE-C06-i09), focused on the modernization of public secondary and high schools. The project responds to a priority classified as urgent in the Sectoral Agreement between the Government and ANMP, aiming at the conservation, improvement and adaptation of the infrastructure to current technical standards.

Context and Need

The Jacinto Correia Basic School required a thorough intervention to address structural and operational problems. Built on clay-sandy soils (Miocene layer), the school presented issues related to pavement settlement and cracking. In addition, there was an urgent need to increase the building’s sustainability, reduce energy losses, and modernize water and sewage systems to minimize waste and problems. The facilities required a functional reorganization, including adapting service areas and improving accessibility for the entire educational community.

Summary of the Project Completed

The architectural solution sought to create a cohesive whole, respecting the chronology of the space and introducing significant technical improvements.
