Surface Water Reservoir Project (200 m³): Ferreirim
Municipality of Sernancelhe

Introduction
This article presents the technical design for the construction of a 200 m³ surface water reservoir located in Ferreirim. The technical solution is based on a prefabricated circular storage system (ACONTANK type), integrating a high-performance storage cell and an adjacent control chamber for operational control and maintenance.
Context and Need
The project arises from the need to reinforce the water storage capacity in the Ferreirim water supply system. The intervention takes place on a plot of land where a reservoir is already in operation, requiring careful integration. The implementation was based on a rigorous topographic survey, ensuring the technical and hydraulic articulation between the new unit and the existing infrastructure on the site.
Summary of the Project Completed
The project focused on implementing a high-strength precast solution and post-tensioning technology.
- Reservoir Structure: Circular system with an internal diameter of 8.85 m and a total height of 4.00 m (maximum water level of 3.50 m). The cell is composed of a foundation slab and 12 precast C35/45 concrete wall panels.
- Watertightness Technology: The vertical joints between the panels are sealed by perimeter post-tensioning with steel monocords, protected by anti-corrosion compound and PVC sheaths. The system ensures constant compression of the joints and total watertightness through the application of expansive mortar, mastic, and a tie beam with epoxy paint.
- Roof and Support: Roof constructed of precast segments resting on the walls and a central precast pillar. Includes ventilation recesses and a manhole for maintenance.
- Structural Analysis and Dimensioning: Dimensioned according to REBAP and Eurocode 2, the project considered permanent actions, roof overload, hydrostatic thrust, temperature effects, and seismic action (Zone D, Type II Terrain).
- Maneuvering Chamber: Adjacent technical building with direct foundations, reinforced concrete beams and columns, and brick masonry. Designed to house piping and connections, it includes level indicators (pneumatic or electric) and rainwater drainage systems.
- Materials and Finishes:
- Concrete: C35/45 (precast), C30/37 (joints) and C20/25 (foundations).
- Protection and Waterproofing: Roofs treated with lightweight expanded clay concrete, flintkote paint and asphaltic membrane. Stairs made of AISI 316 grade stainless steel for corrosion resistance.
- Finishes: Hydraulic mosaic floors and surfaces painted with water-based paint and plastic paint over primer.
- External Arrangements: Leveling of the terrain with compacted gravel, construction of ground-level stairs in cyclopean concrete to manage unevenness, and a perimeter fence 2.00 m high with access gates.
