Introduction

This project refers to the Preliminary Study for the complete requalification of Avenida dos Negréus and its surrounding streets in the Municipality of Torres Novas. The intervention covers a total length of approximately 1,100 meters and aims to reorganize the public space through the creation of a new local road. The main objective is to give a more urban character to this area of ​​Espírito Santo, promoting traffic flow and the safety of all users.

Context and Need

The need for intervention on Avenida dos Negréus arises from the urgent need to reduce traffic speeds and improve conditions for sustainable modes of transport. Currently, the area lacks infrastructure that allows for safe coexistence between vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.

The project was designed to transform the avenue into a more urban connection to National Highway 3, adapting to the space limitations imposed by existing single-family homes and apartment buildings. The solution seeks to enhance public space and increase road safety, responding to the mobility demands of pedestrians and cyclists in the municipality.

Summary of the Project Completed

The technical solution advocated by Envisquantis focuses on reorganizing the cross-sectional profile and creating new traffic infrastructure.

• Geometry and Intersections: Implementation of a new roundabout intersection in the middle of Avenida dos Negréus, with an 8.00-meter-wide traffic lane, to allow access to the new Local Road.
• Cross-section Profile: The main roadway will have two lanes, each 3.00 meters wide. The project integrates one-way bike paths of 1.40 meters and sidewalks of 2.50 meters on both sides. In sections with greater space limitations, a mixed area (sidewalk + bike path) was designed to ensure the continuity of routes without the need for expropriations.
• Structured Pavement:
  • Roadway: Flexible pavement (Class T4) with layers of bituminous concrete, bituminous macadam, and bases of crushed aggregate with extensive granulometry.
  • Soft Modes: The cycle path will have a surface finish in red “slurry seal,” while the mixed zone will be identified with the color salmon. The sidewalks will be constructed of pre-cast concrete blocks.
