Reurbanization Project for Infante Sagres Street – Parchal
Municipality of Lagoa

Introduction
This technical project focuses on the integral rehabilitation of Rua Infante de Sagres, located in Parchal, in the municipality of Lagoa. The intervention covers a section of approximately 720 meters, between the Pateiro roundabout and the Parchal roundabout. The execution study has as its objective the remodeling of roads and the reorganization of public spaces, integrating the road network, the pavement and the signage to guarantee an optimal performance of the urban infrastructure.

Context and necessity
The need to intervene on this road is due to serious structural and functional problems. Currently, Rua Infante de Sagres presents serious problems with the pavement, such as degradation in the form of “crocodile skin”, often associated with poor drainage.
The main challenge lies at the height of the street in relation to the thresholds of existing buildings, which generates negative dependent pressures that direct the rainwater to homes. This situation, combined with the insufficiency of existing drainage systems, causes recurrent flooding during intense rains. Furthermore, the project identifies the urgent need to improve pedestrian accessibility and reorganize parking to guarantee the safety of all users.
Summary of the finished project
The solution that Envisquantis proposes is based on a technical approach that prioritizes drainage and universal accessibility.
- Repaving and elevation: The project proposes lowering the height of the sidewalk to a maximum of approximately 44 cm. This measure is essential to mitigate floods and allow water to have adequate slopes (less than 4%) on the sidewalk.
- Structured flooring: Implementation of flexible flooring composed of layers of bituminous hormigón and bituminous macadán on crushed arid bases. The steelworks will have a glass floor and the parking areas will have a reinforced bituminous hormigon structure.
- Universal accessibility: Creation of pedestrian steps with lowered steels (Types I and II) and application of tactile flooring (warning, presence and indicator). The project also includes specific parking spaces for people with disabilities, properly signposted and with reduced slope transition ramps.
- Road and pedestrian safety: Introduction of high pedestrian steps to reduce speed and increase visibility. The horizontal and vertical signage plan has been completely renewed, including the use of retroreflective marks and the installation of protective shields in the most densely populated residential areas.
- Infrastructure management: The study guarantees compatibility with the surrounding road network (routes 1, 2 and 3) and includes milling of existing pavements to ensure correct alignment and prevent future problems.
