Urban Redevelopment Project for Municipal Road 1077
Municipality of Ansião

Introduction
This article presents the project plan for the improvement of Municipal Road (CM) 1077, located in the municipality of Ansião. The intervention covers the section that connects the EN347-1, next to the Ribeira de Alcalamouque, to Charneca do Alvorge, passing through the locality of Vale Florido. With a total length of approximately 2,502 meters, the project aims at the thorough rehabilitation of this road infrastructure, integrating aspects of road alignment, paving, drainage, and safety signage.

Context and Need
Currently, the CM1077 road presents an advanced state of pavement degradation, characterized by serious pathologies such as deep ruts, cracks, “crocodile skin,” patches, and disintegration of the bituminous material. This damage compromises the safety and comfort of users, making rehabilitation a priority for the Municipality of Ansião.
The need for the project is reinforced by the identification of instabilities in excavation slopes along the route and the lack of an effective drainage system, which is currently based on unlined ditches and insufficient hydraulic devices. The central objective is to provide the road with a new pavement structure and adequate drainage systems, ensuring regularity and safety in the expected traffic flow.
Summary of the Project Completed
The technical solution developed by Envisquantis focused on the functional and structural rehabilitation of the road, respecting the orographic and urban constraints.
- Geometry and Layout: The plan layout was maintained to minimize encroachment on private property, while the grade elevation underwent minor corrections to improve visibility and comfort. The design speed was set at 60 km/h.
- Structural Pavement: The entire roadway was designed with a flexible pavement structure 50 cm thick. This structure includes a bituminous concrete wearing course (5 cm), a leveling course (5 cm), and base and sub-base layers of coarse aggregate with extensive granulometry (20 cm each).
- Drainage System: * Transversal: Replacement and construction of new concrete culverts, dimensioned for a 20-year return period.
- Longitudinal: Implementation of concrete platform ditches and longitudinal drains for the collection of deep and surface water.
- Signage and Safety: Complete overhaul of vertical (code and information signs) and horizontal signage. Horizontal markings were adapted to the 5.50 m width of the roadway, using lateral guides for orientation without the need for a demarcated axis.
- Retention Systems: Installation of flexible safety barriers on embankments with a height greater than 3 meters and for the protection of rigid obstacles, with plumb spacing adjusted according to the criticality of the site.
- Geotechnical Framework: Penetrometric (DPSH) and laboratory tests were carried out, classifying the foundation as class S2, serving as a basis for the rigorous dimensioning of the granular layers.
