Sanitary Sewerage Project in Cunqueiros and Vergão
Municipality of Proença-a-Nova

Introduction
This technical project consisted of the design and development of the implementation system for the domestic wastewater sanitation network and its treatment in the town of Cunqueiros, located in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova. The intervention focused on creating a modern and efficient infrastructure for effluent management, ensuring compliance with health and environmental protection regulations.

Context and Need
The project’s necessity stemmed from providing Cunqueiros with a completely new drainage system capable of serving a population distributed across 269 housing units. Through topographic surveys and field analyses, physical and geological constraints were identified that demanded a rigorous technical solution. The central objective was to guarantee gravitational flow and self-cleaning of the collectors, preventing the sedimentation of solids and ensuring the durability of the pipes through strict criteria of velocity and inclination.
Summary of the Project Completed
The implemented sanitation system comprises a collection network in PVC-SN8, FFD, and HDPE, installed in existing streets with varying laying depths to ensure hydraulic functionality. The project was structured around three main axes:
- Drainage Network: Construction of buried collectors and household connections, including suspended cast iron pipes for crossing water lines.
- Pumping System: Construction of a pumping station equipped with two submersible electric pump units (one in reserve), a reinforced concrete pumping well with a debris collection basket, and an independent control chamber to facilitate maintenance operations.
- Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP): Installation of a compact, sequentially operated WWTP based on an activated sludge system with extended aeration. This solution ensures high efficiency in biological treatment, with zero visual impact and absence of odors, culminating in the return of the treated effluent to the natural receiving environment after flow measurement.
The infrastructure is complemented by a support building for electromechanical equipment and electrical panels, ensuring the automatic and safe operation of the entire system.
